Join us for another season of DIY Herbalism! This mentorship-style program is designed to give you the basics you need to craft multiple different kinds of herbal medicine, and to become familiar with basic herbalism concepts. You'll leave this program feeling empowered to work with herbs for yourself and your family, and to create all kinds of herbal medicines!

Each session we'll spend time in the class gardens on the property, learning plant identification, growing tips and harvest techniques. There will also be opportunities for foraging walks throughout the season worked into the class time. This outdoor time with the plants allows us to observe seasonal changes, and have an opportunity to practice intuitive plant connection as they grow and evolve.

We’ll explore one kind of herbal medicine each session, learning how to craft it, best practices, and best scenarios for use. You’ll be able to craft your own remedy each class to take home with you! These herbal remedies include:

• Tinctures

• Vinegars

• Oxymels

• Oils

• Salves

• Hydrosols

• Syrups

• Infused honeys

• Electuaries

• & more!

We’ll also spend time each class on body systems (especially from a holistic lens), herbal energetics, formulation techniques, folklore, herbal actions and intuitive plant connection. In every class we'll cover multiple individual herbs in depth, and you'll be provided with materia medica sheets for each herb for reference & study. Every month there will be an opportunity to deep-dive with one medicinal plant, creating a stronger bond and gathering personal, experiential knowledge between class sessions.

With a strong emphasis on mentorship woven into the program, we encourage you to work with both the class material & your teacher to extract the most value for your own self/family/community's needs. Our goal for this program is to deepen your level of connection with the plant world, provide grounded, hands-on information on creating herbal medicine & growing herbs, and to give you the confidence you need to work with herbs as medicines within your family and community. This program is designed for beginners, no experience is necessary to join!

Location: Areté’s newly renovated barn studio in historic Unionville, PA
(near Kennett Square — exact location will be given once registered for privacy reasons because this is a residential property)

Class Schedule: Class will meet once per month for 9 months at the same time and day for 4 hours.

About Your Instructor:

Rabia is a Clinical Herbalist in the greater Philadelphia area teaching herbalism classes and offering private herbal consultations. She was brought up with herbal medicine & astrology and weaves these two powerful modalities together in her practice. Rabia studied horticulture and botany through the historic Barnes’ Foundation program, while completing a community herbalist training under Clinical Herbalist Ashley Elenbaas. She went on to study clinical herbalism in Dr. Tieraona Low Dog’s Foundations Program. She loves to lead plant walks and herbal medicine making workshops, and to bring people together in connection with the earth. She believes body, mind & soul are deeply interconnected and true healing can happen when we work through this lens.
